Hi Friends,

My mum remembers buying it, but she must have bought it while I was living away from home in the late 70's. That must be why I have no childhood memories of her ever using it.

After I found it recently, deep in my mum's garage, this 1960's vintage Atomic Coffee Machine has been restored to full working order. I promptly contacted the local distributor who is still in business and ordered the needed spare parts. First, I descaled it and then I replaced ALL THE RUBBER WASHERS, SEALS AND GASKETS. So the item is presented in excellent, operational condition!

Since then, the machine has had only about 24 months use. I took it, and a small electric coffee grinder, with me to Malaysia for about  2 years and enjoyed the coffee immensely. I had previously got hooked on coffee at the Malaysia Branch while working on an audio recording project. But then my favourite coffee shop chain "Secret Recipe" became a frequent ritual until I noticed a bag of their coffee beans lying around. The distributor's name was on it and pretty soon, I had a few bags of 'Secret Recipe' Tex Mex roasted beans lying around at home. I liked the speed of extraction, you didn't have to boil a kettle and then wait for the brewing time as in the case of a French press, but also the interactivity of the process is engaging. It's not a set and forget system. It engages all your senses. You are physically involved grinding, tamping, filling (with filtered water of course), watching and listening for the change in sound, and of course smelling.. smelling.. smelling!

When I returned to Australia from Malaysia, I had to bring it back with me, of course.

And now, it still makes that rich, dark coffee extraction that delights our Italian friends, here in Sydney's 'Little Italy' -  Haberfield, NSW.

The machine was made in Italy in the 1960's and features the original badge in good condition with the Atomic brand mark and the local licensed distributors details.

The item has some light scratches in the orange enamel and in the unpainted aluminium parts commensurate with its age, but this light wear simply adds to its character, and in no way limits its functionality.

Some coffee shops buy these simply to use as decorative pieces - examples of outstanding Italian industrial design - but if you want offer your guests that old-fashioned hospitality, that only comes from a hand-made, person to person, coffee experience, this is the machine for you!

Instruction Book, sample coffee grinds (to match the right size), along with 2 different sized coffee holders  are all included (see the other pictures linked).

Be assured that the machine will be posted in a sturdy box with plenty of bubble wrap and packing.
Yes, this is an Italian original located in Haberfield, NSW Australia, but prompt International Post is available to most Western Countries and I only post with tracking.

However, now it's time for us to part ways.

We live in a smaller house now and I got into some debt coming back from Malaysia. So I've determined cut down on possessions and to say goodbye to this good old friend. There's a myriad of things that need to go, so this is the first post of what should amount to a series of posts about my online garage sale.

Here's the link to the auction listing if you're interested.
